UNSHINE interview on Rock Overdose 07/03/2012   19:03

Antonis "Jey Key" Katsaros had the chance to talk with the Finnish druid metallers UNSHINE for their upcoming third album "Dark Half Rising" and many more things. Enjoy the conversation below…

Rock Overdose: Hi guys! Thank you for this interview. Can you introduce your band to the Greek fans?

Unshine: Dear Greek druid metalheads and rest of the metalheads of course, we're Unshine, a Finnish druid metal band. We have a new, our 3rd album, called 'Dark Half Rising' recorded and we are now doing our best so that you can have a change to hear it soon. Of course, we would also like to visit Greece and play the whole album for you, that would be our first time in there, the home country of Dionysos and dryads!

Rock Overdose:  Your latest album "The Enigma of Immortals" made to gain position in the official charts in Finland. How do you feel about that?

Unshine: We were quite surprised but happy too, of course! Because Finland has a worldwide reputation for exporting high-quality metal bands, it was very flattering to reach the official record charts in our home country.

Rock Overdose: After that you played at some very interesting shows like at Sweden Rock 2010, or supporting Lake of Tears and Amorphis! Can you tell as your experiences from those shows?

Unshine: Those were great experiences, I can tell you that. In Sweden Rock, the organisers had even arranged us a country house accommodation in the middle of beautiful countryside,

the best choice for druids! Guys of LoT and Amorphis were great down-to-earth people, I hope we could have a chance to support them in the future, too.

It's always a honour to play shows like that but there's always the challenge to fill the possible expectations, too.

I hope we made lots of new fans at those shows.

Rock Overdose: So, now your new album is ready! Can you tell us the title and/or some tracks?

Unshine: The title already came, but some new song titles include 'The Blood Of Ardennes', 'Nadja's Wailing About Coming Of The Frost', 'Idyl' and 'Their Horses Never Touch The Ground'. I hope you'll get some nice advance feeling from these titles!

Rock Overdose: Are there any musical or lyrical changes in the new album?

Unshine: Yes, definitely in the sense that 'Dark Half Rising' is a concept album, our first one. So, lyrically, the album is pretty much centered around one theme. Because we have not published the album yet, I'm going to say now just that some real historical events play a central role in the story. Musically, it has lots of styles included, maybe more than ever in our records.

Rock Overdose: A lot of labels are interesting to release your album! Are you excited about that?

Unshine: Yes, I hope we find a good company, who would be willing and ready to take us to the next level, I'm really proud that we have an album which has caused lots of interest.

Herein, I am also very grateful for as a band we have been together for so long time without line-up changes. In order to step to higher levels, I believe

this would be crucial for most, if even all, of the bands.

Rock Overdose: What's next? Lives? Maybe tours for promotion of your album?

Unshine: Working hard for that, we should definitely tour first at least Finland and Europe to promote the album!

Rock Overdose: Finland was always producing excellent musicians and bands! Which are your favorites?

Unshine: I have to say that often more than in musical sense, I respect a high number of Finnish bands as good role models for us on how things should be done in order to get your music to the world. Speaking about foreign music, personally I most often listen to very outdated music someone would say,70's prog and krautrock, bands like Camel, Pentangle, Jethro Tull and Tangerine Dream. On the other hand, of the Finnish bands I like for example Amorphis (of course), Swallow The Sun and Tenhi. The musical tastes within Unshine vary a lot, from jazz to uber-doom!

Rock Overdose: You know, in Greece there is a lot of people that may can't afford to buy many albums, cause of the crisis. So, why should people buy your new album?

Unshine: Hmm, let me express it this way: if you buy our new album, we might have a chance to repeat your experience by playing the songs live in Greece! ;)

Rock Overdose: Thanks a lot for this interview guys! The last words are yours…

Unshine: Stay metal and if (=when) we come to play Greece, come and greet us, we'd really like to meet you! If you wish to interview more of our artists please check our site : www.armadaagency.com and come back with your request.
